2007-2008 Fishing Regulations

Let’s go fishing! The 2007-2008 Georgia Sport Fishing Regulations now are available at all license agent outlets.

This booklet contains information that should answer all basic questions for new and experienced anglers.

This guide provides helpful information such as color fish identification charts for both freshwater and saltwater fish, license purchasing information, contact information for WRD Fisheries Management Offices and WRD Law Enforcement Offices, trout stream listings, public fishing area (PFA) information, state record fish listings and complete information about fishing regulations.

The theme for this guide is "take me fishing" and on the cover you will see some proud anglers displaying their catches and just enjoying a relaxed day of fishing. There are truly so many places and so many ways to go fish Georgia!

The Board of Natural Resources sets Georgia’s fishing regulations. The Board acts on recommendations made by WRD’s and Coastal Resources Division’s fisheries biologists and field personnel. Laws are set by the Georgia General Assembly.

Changes this year include:

  • A section of the Toccoa River was added as the newest delayed harvest trout stream. Some wording was changed that had the unintended consequence of prohibiting the opportunity to harvest sport fish other than trout in a DH stream.
  • The DNR license and boating registration unit has moved. Also a new toll-free number was added - 800-366-2661
  • Boat registration rules now require a valid Hull Identification Number.
  • Please check Page 28 for pending legistative and/or regulatory changes for saltwater fishing.

The fishing regulations guide is available at over 1,200 locations statewide including WRD Regional Offices and all license agent locations. License agents include Bass Pro Shop, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, bait shops and outdoor sporting goods shops.
