Hunt and Fish for a Lifetime with the Lifetime Sportsman's License
(3/18/2003)

Make a life-long commitment to wildlife this spring when purchasing a new hunting or fishing license by investing in a lifetime sportsman’s license, encourages the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division (WRD). This license covers a lifetime of all necessary state hunting and fishing licenses (except the federal duck stamp) that a hunter or angler would need for year-round hunting and fishing enjoyment, even if they move out of state.

“The lifetime sportsman’s license is a great investment for both the avid outdoors enthusiast and also for the wildlife that benefits from the sale of this license,” says WRD Director David Waller. “It is especially cost-advantageous to the buyer to purchase one for those under the age of 16, due to the lower price.”

Hunters and anglers who purchase a lifetime sportsman’s license will receive an attractive, plastic card with their name, date of birth and identification number embossed on one side and a photograph of a white-tailed deer and a largemouth bass on the other side. A temporary license will be issued for immediate use until the actual card arrives in the mail. Lifetime sportsman’s license prices range from $200 to $500, depending on the age of the person for whom the license is purchased. Lifetime sportsman’s license prices are as follows:

  • Under age 2 - $200
  • Ages 2-15 - $350
  • Ages 16 and up - $500

Lifetime license holders who hunt deer still need to obtain the free deer harvest record form each year. Lifetime license holders who hunt migratory birds also need to obtain the migratory bird harvest information permit (HIP) each year. The deer harvest record form and HIP permit are available at no charge from any license agent. Hunters and anglers age 65 and older can continue to receive a free senior citizen’s hunting and fishing license at any license agent or WRD office, or they may purchase the colorful, plastic identification card for $10.

Due to the strict residency requirements, lifetime sportsman’s licenses only are sold at WRD offices or by mail. Sportsmen and women can mail an application for a lifetime sportsman’s license to one of these locations, but they must provide proof that they have been a Georgia resident for the preceding 12 months. Proof of residency for those under 16 includes a certified copy of the applicant’s birth certificate and documentation of the parents’ Georgia residence. Proof of residency for adults includes a Georgia driver’s license or an official Georgia ID card and one of the following: Georgia income tax form or G-2 form from the previous year, voter registration card, current automobile registration or warranty deed to property named on the applicant’s photo ID.
