Fort Yargo State Park

Fort Yargo State Park

This historical park features one of four log forts or blockhouses built in 1792 by settlers for protection against Creek and Cherokee Indians. Located between Atlanta and Athens, Fort Yargo offers a unique camping and fishing experience for families. Within the park is Will-A-Way Recreation Area, a group camp and recreation area specifically designed for special populations use with cottages, food service facilities, picnic and fishing areas. Will-A-Way was opened in June, 1971, far in advance of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and is a model for handicap access in recreation areas. Several large handicapped accessible fishing docks are situated at different places on the lake, including a couple adjancent to the camp grounds. Will-A-Way group camp, with access to facilities across the lake via boats and special wheelchair watercraft. Beautiful fall colors from across the water, this is lake not just for fishing.
